J.H. Hines Principal Looks Ahead To New Year

Aug. 24, 2010

When the doors opened at the new 12 million dollar J.H. Hines Elementary Monday, nearly 600 students flooded through the doors. Approximately 90 percent of these students live in poverty. The Greater Waco Education Alliance has made reaching these students a priority. In our interview, principal Archie Hatten said right away that improving literacy is the first step.

Throughout the year as part of our coverage of Waco education, we'll check in on J.H. Hines as it looks for innovative ways to help students learn. You can hear yesterday's story about the opening of the school along with pictures at kwbu.org. For KWBU News, I'm Derek Smith.
