KWBU News FeedDr. Bonny Cain Avoids Complacency, Both In And Out of Education
Feb. 13, 2011
It was almost two weeks ago that the Waco School Board unanimously recommended Pearland I.S.D. superintendent Bonny Cain as the lone finalist for the same job here. Her 21 day waiting period comes to a conclusion next week, at which point her hiring can become official.
Waco NPR wanted to get to know about the woman praised so highly by the board at their last meeting, a woman described as visionary, unconventional, results-oriented, and driven. So all this week, we'll hear from her in a five part series. Starting things off on a light note, the subject of her hobbies and recreational pursuits came up. And the answer was immediately interesting.
So maybe it's not surprising that a skydiving superintendent might be willing to think outside of the box when it comes to running a district. The board praised her for Pearland's willingness to avoid canned programs. She told us about multiple initiatives designed to increase teacher and student effectiveness that were originated during her time as superintendent.
Tomorrow, we'll hear from Dr. Cain on administering change and overcoming resistance to it in our schools. You can hear prior stories on the presentation of Bonny Cain by the Waco School Board online at kwbu.org. For KWBU News, I'm Derek Smith.
