FULL TIME REPORTER

KWBU’s Reporter will be the voice of Waco Public Radio for local news and feature stories, reporting timely local news and producing at least one feature news story (3 – 5 minutes) per week.

Journalism experience is required. The ideal candidate will have experience in broadcast journalism and familiarity with NPR style reporting. Familiarity with station operations, procedures and automation is a plus.

Some weekend and holiday work will be required.

Requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Enthusiasm for local news.
  • Strong research and writing skills. Ability to write quickly and communicate clearly, producing news and feature stories for radio and web.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a small team, complete work on deadline with minimal supervision, and interact with the public in a professional manner.
  • Professional on-air delivery.
  • Commitment to journalistic ethics as delineated in NPR Ethics Handbook and “Society of Professional Journalists Code of Ethics.”
  • Willingness to learn and the desire to continually improve your craft.
  • Ability to react to, produce and post breaking news when needed.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (some evenings, weekends and holidays required).
  • Willingness to participate in on-air membership drives and to appear at station events.
  • Occasionally fill-in as morning host.
  • Must have valid driver license and reliable transportation

FULL TIME MEMBERSHIP ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR

KWBU’s Membership Engagement Coordinator will build relationships with members of the community, audience, volunteers, and donors via events, social media, and email campaigns. This position is tied to KWBU’s member support goals.

Requirements include, but are not limited to:

  • Love for people, especially those here in Waco/McLennan County.
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of Waco Public Radio.
  • Understanding of member-supported non-profit organizations.
  • Understanding of ethics of a journalistic organization.
  • Must be outgoing, with no fear of public speaking.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments, with sponsors, venues, volunteers, and interns.
  • Ability to relate to and communicate effectively with people of all ages and demographics (including “traditional” college students).
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines with vigorous attention to detail.
  • Must be prompt and timely in communications both within and outside the organization.
  • Skilled in social media, maintaining and growing the station’s social media accounts and maintaining/updating KWBU’s website – creating content, engaging with listeners, and helping build audience.
  • Must be able to lift at least 35 lbs.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (some evenings and weekends required)

FULL TIME OPERATIONS ASSISTANT / PRODUCER / ON-AIR HOST

KWBU’s Operations Assistant / Producer / Host will work with volunteer hosts to produce local segments/programs, update broadcast automation, locally host NPR’s All Things Considered, and serve as back-up host for Morning Edition. Familiarity with NPR preferred. A valid Texas driver license is required.

Working in a small market station brings the expectation of assisting in many varied tasks, providing the opportunity to learn about all areas of station operations. Some weekend and holiday work will be required.

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Working with volunteer hosts to produce local short segments and at least one longer weekly program
  • Proficiency with ENCO automation system
  • Serving as back-up host for Morning Edition
  • Covering occasional weekend and on-call shifts
  • Participation in fund drives
