Garrison Street Community Garden honors revitalization with ribbon cutting ceremony

As part of the Keep Waco Beautiful program, Creating Green Neighborhoods, the Garrison Street Community Garden has been revitalized with fresh crops, garden beds and a new mural.

The Garrison Street Community Garden hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony this afternoon to celebrate the many improvements made over the last several months, including a new mural, crops and garden beds.

Carole Fergusson: “To see it come together like this in a beautiful way, to see the community come and gather and know about this space and get excited about this space. To see it actually come together in real time is just really wonderful.”

Carole Ferguson is the Executive Director of Keep Waco Beautiful, which partnered with the Waco chapter of the National Women in Agriculture Association to revitalize the community garden.

Local artist Vincent Thomas, who painted the new mural at the garden, chose to reflect the women-led initiative in his art.

Vincent Thomas: “I really wanted to capture that sisterhood.”

This project was just one of many, according to Keep Waco Beautiful, which is spearheading the Creating Green Neighborhoods program. The program aims to enhance community gardens across the city.
