More than 3,300 Incoming Freshmen Heading to Baylor as Move-in Starts

Carlos Morales

This week incoming freshman and returning Baylor students began moving in to dorms on campus. KWBU’s Carlos Morales has a look at the incoming class.

Outside the Hallie Earle Hall a steady flow of cars – packed with all the first-year-of-College staples – pull up and are unloaded by a core of volunteers. That pattern was repeated across several dorms on Baylor’s campus as more than 3,300 incoming freshman are set to move in throughout the next couple of days.

Danielle Jacobs is one of those students, she’s from Fort Worth. In fact, Jacobs and about two-thirds of the incoming freshman are from Texas. Jacobs – who wants to study biomedical engineering – says she chose Baylor because she wanted a place close to home, a place that could challenge her academically.

“I want to do, I want to get the best education I can but also, like I said, I want to start helping people as early as I can," Jacobs says.

And just down the street 17 year old Arham Siddiqui, who wants to study medicine, was moving into his room at the Gordon Teal Residential dorms. He says moving in was a pretty seamless process. And with roughly 3,000 student, faculty, staff and community volunteers to lend a hand, it’s easy to see why.

“They made it really, really easy for you. They kept sending you e-mails saying, ‘we’ll come here, we’ll do this, we’ll have a dinner at this time,' Siddiqui says. "And I got here, they didn’t make us do any work, they’re like “put your boxes down and we’ll do it for you. Really friendly move-in, I wasn’t that anxious any more it made the move in easy.

And this is Texas after all, so Siddiqui, much like Jacobs and the scores of other incoming freshman, is excited for one thing in particular:

“Football also. I can’t wait to join the freshman line and you know, charge the stadium – definitely looking forward to that," Siddiqui says.

Classes start this coming Monday August 24.
