Waco Wonderland Kicks Off Its 9th Year

Dustin Drew
Parks and Recreation Team Decorating for Waco Wonderland

Covid put a damper on the Christmas spirit last year, as the City of Waco decided to cancel Waco Wonderland.  The annual festival held on the first weekend of December.

This year, it is back and even bigger than before.

“We are building it back up, bringing out some large elements, such as our Ferris Wheel and our snow hill.  Parade is coming back. We can expect a lot of fun down here at Heritage Square.”

Megan Davis is with the City of Waco’s Parks and Recreation Department and says that the 9th annual Waco Wonderland will kick off tonight.  The gates will open at 5pm, and at 7 there will be the tree lighting ceremony and fireworks show.

During the weekend celebration you can enjoy the Mistletoe Market, food trucks and live entertainment.  On Saturday the Waco Wonderland parade will begin at 10.  The parade will travel along Austin Avenue beginning at 11th street.

“We’ll see some festive holiday decorated entries, along with our city dignitaries, and some folks that uh, come down Austin Avenue and disburse at the square, lead everyone down with Santa, and the firetruck at the end.”

Waco Wonderland is free to the public with a few exceptions…. The city is selling wristbands for $10 dollars…

“And what that allows you to do, it allows you to ride the Ferris Wheel, the train and the Snow Hill as much as you’d like.”
