Central Texas Leadership Series - Geneece Goertzen

For KWBU’s Central Texas Leadership Series this week, KWBU’s Rachel Velasco leads a conversation with Geneece Goertzen, domestic violence survivor and state and national domestic violence advocate.

Goertzen is PhD student in social work at Baylor, a Licensed Master Social Worker, and an ordained minister with a Master of Divinity through the Truett Seminary. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Family Abuse Center and is a prolific writer and speaker who passionately advocates for domestic abuse victims through her work in resourcing communities, including the church and clergy, on prevention and intervention of domestic violence. She is the author of “Taking it Seriously: Faith Leaders Response to Domestic Violence” due to be released later this year.

If you or a loved one are victims of domestic violence, you can find help and resources at Geneece's website HopeRiseThrive.com or at FamilyAbuseCenter.org

On this episode of Central Texas Leadership Series, Rachel Velasco leads a conversation with Josh King, professor of English at Baylor and founding director of the environmental humanities minor in the college of arts and sciences.

A love for people and the greater Waco community has always been the heart of Rachel’s work. A 2005 UT Austin graduate with a degree in English, Rachel began her career as a classroom English teacher. Through various professional opportunities in the education field, health and wellness industry, and the private business sector, she cultivated a love for building strong communities through service. She joined KWBU in August of 2023. She is also the Saturday Market Manager for the Waco Downtown Farmers Market. She has four nearly-grown children and loves tending her herbs and roses and growing things.
