Has there ever been a more extensive dynastic family in the history of gospel music than the Winans? Beginning with Marvin, Carvin, Michael and Ronald as The Winans, followed by BeBe & CeCe Winans, then the Winans Phase 2, Angie and Debbie, solo artists Daniel Winans, and David Winans II, and now a host of still-younger Winans, this Detroit-based family may well be the First Family of Gospel Music.
Of course, it all began with the talented David and Delores – known to everyone as Mom and Pop Winans – who released several fine albums of their own utilizing the musical and songwriting talents of their various children and grandchildren. Here’s a track by Mom & Pop, written by Marvin and featuring the legendary Patrick Henderson on keyboards, “Nobody Else But Him.”
