In this Thanksgiving program, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra performs Má Vlast, the six-part symphonic by Czech composer Bedřich Smetana. Má Vlast journeys through imagery from the composer's homeland to evoke imagery of landscapes, a wedding party, a hunt and even water nymphs.
Comprised of six poems in all, Má Vlast journeys through imagery from the composer's homeland. Fittingly, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is conducted by the Czech Republic's most recognized conductor today, Jiří Bělohlávek.
This symphonic poem paints a musical picture, evoking imagery of landscapes, a wedding party, a hunt and even water nymphs. This will be the first time the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra has performed this work in its entirety since 1976 with Maestro Rafael Kubelík.
