Pickleball Opportunities Grow in Waco

PickleBall, a sport that combines elements of tennis, ping pong and badminton, has been called the nation's fastest growing sport.

A recent report from The Association of Pickleball Professionals showed over 36.5 million players at the beginning of 2023. The same report in 2021 showed only 5 million players.

Waco community members have the opportunity to get involved no matter the skill level. Baylor University, Waco’s Regional Tennis Center, and the Greater Waco YMCA have leagues playing every week.

Baylor University student, Katy Dulany, has been playing PickleBall with her family since 2021. She’s found a way to continue to play in Waco as a member of Waco’s Sports and Social Club.

Katy comments on the growth of the club in recent months.

“So it just started on Mondays, now it’s Monday and Fridays. And again it's like their most popular one where they have between forty to sixty people come out to play. which is really awesome,” Dulany said.

PickleBall is known to be easier on the joints yet still fast paced and competitive, offering a fun outlet for people of all ages and experience.
