Main Space of the Moody Media Lab

Alyssa Ruffing

Baylor University’s media lab has a newly improved space and additions to the campus resource. Anyone with a Baylor ID is able and welcome to make use of the lab and its equipment.

There are managers and student lab specialists who are around to assist and answer questions. All appointments and checkouts can be completed online, via QR codes placed around the lab, or with the assistance of a student worker.

Yasmin Nearor, Studio and Equipment Manager, says the lab is another resource for equipment checkout.

“You also have opportunities for the Castellaw equipment checkout; however, if you are from a different discipline and you don’t have that luxury of going to Castellaw and checking out this great equipment, but lucky for you if you come to the media lab we have a plethora amount of equipment,” Nearor says regarding the checkout accessibility at Baylor.

Castellaw requires students to be in the film department and working on a class project; therefore, the Moody Media Lab has opened up to all of Baylor which includes: students, staff, and faculty. Apart from the equipment, they also have various spaces like a VR lab. “We also have like the VR lab which is really cool...not a lot of people know about it and it’s just a great opportunity for people to come and just like take a break from all of your studies,” Nearor said.

They have operating hours for every day of the week and can be found on the garden level of Moody Library on Baylor’s campus. Their site can also be found on Baylor’s University Libraries page under Experiential Learning.
