Titled, ‘Fiji Fright Night’ the organization hosts three nights of fright at fountain mall from October 18th-20th beginning at 8 p.m. with doors closing at 11 p.m.
Last year’s haunted house consisted of 2 white tents and 10 rooms that attendees walk through. This year, event organizers aimed to expand the haunted experience with more themes and characters, creating a three tent and 11 room, on campus, haunted house.
“This year we added a third tent, made the rooms a little bigger, there’s more time in each room and now we have 11 rooms. So, my main objective was just to grow the event and make it that much more fun for the Baylor student,” Fiji lead organizer, Jack Donahue, said.
There are a variety of fraternity members dressed up in scary costumes, masks, makeup and personalities. Although the event is student led, Fiji’s dedication to a haunted ambiance, led students to worry in line. Baylor freshman, Olai Egberongbe, asked, “They don’t touch us in here, right...they don’t get too close?”
Fiji members inside the tent were only scaring to have fun and raise money for a good cause, as they annually raise money and donate all proceeds to the American Red Cross in Waco.
Physical harm was not promoted but it wasn’t promised that the creatures would keep a distance.
“It’s kind of ironic, personally, I don’t really do scary stuff, you also have to think about it’s just a bunch of our fraternity brothers, having fun, scarring you for a good cause, Donahue, said.”
Once in front of the Fiji Fright Night line, designated fraternity members in white shirts guide visitors to each room. The walk fron entry to exit is approximately 5 minutes. Entry is free, however, Phi Gamma Delta sold t-shirts for $20 which could also be used as a fast pass to skip the line.
“I’m just glad to see our members coming together as a whole and being able to put on an event like this. Especially, you know, just making it look good and raising money for a good cause,” Fiji president, Jake Masini, said.
Food trucks were also on site. The constant scares at Fright Night are thrilling and a Halloween themed experience for any students who find fun in fright.
