Waco ISD selects lone superintendent finalist

In June, Waco Independent School District superintendent, Dr. Susan Kincannon announced her intent to retire at the end of September. That started a long search-process for the Waco ISD Board of Trustees. Now, they have named the individual they intend to hire.

The Waco Independent School Board named Dr. Tiffany Spicer as its lone finalist for superintendent in a unanimous vote on September 12.

According to board member Angelo Ochoa, 51 applicants applied and after careful consideration of resumes and experience, the board named Spicer as their pick to replace Kincannon.

“I am proud of the work we put into this decision, in picking someone who we think will lead this district with compassion and continue to build on Waco ISD’s accomplishments”

Spicer has spent 16 years in various district leadership roles and is currently the superintendent of Buna ISD in East Texas. She holds a doctor of educational administration and masters in educational leadership. Spicer describes herself as a passionate educator committed to removing barriers for students

By law, the Board must wait 21 days before voting to hire Spicer as the new superintendent, to allow time for public comment. The board is scheduled to vote on her hiring on October 4.
