Firefighters respond to a fire at the Delta Centrifugal manufacturing plant on October 1, 2024.

A Temple manufacturing plant was temporarily closed this morning following an explosion and fire.

An explosion in one of Delta Centrifugal’s induction furnace led to a fire around 11:30 Tuesday morning. Temple Fire Department Spokesperson Santo Soto said the department quickly responded, containing the flames in around 15 minutes.

At the time of the fire, the furnace contained around 10,000 pounds of molten metal being heated to 2,900 degrees.

"There were five personnel from the facility that were transported to the local ER," Soto said. "They did suffer severe burns. Nothing is thought to be life threatening, but they are in serious condition."

The company and fire department are unsure what led to the explosion. The plant appears to be back to normal operations, but could not be reached for comment.
