The Central Texas Food Bank announced plans to open a new location in East Waco. This will be its first location outside of the Austin area.

The new Waco Hub will serve as a major food gathering, preparation and distribution center for McLennan and surrounding counties, which suffer from high rates of food insecurity. According to Tuesday’s press release, the new location is part of the Central Texas Food Bank’s new holistic approach to solving hunger.

"So this is really meant to be not just a warehouse to increase our efficiency and distribution, but a resource for the entire Waco community," said Sari Vatske, President & CEO of the Central Texas Food Bank.

She said the Waco Hub will not only serve as a food bank, but also host a community center, market, benefits assistance and jobs training programs. The Waco Hub is expected to open late next year.
