Community and Art collide in Downtown Waco, as art gallery Cultivate 7Twevle celebrate Waco’s 175 Year Anniversary with a Community Art showcase. The event was designed to showcase the history and culture of Waco through the eyes of its local artists.
The art pieces range from Wood carvings to Lego bridge sculptures, with the largest a reimagining of Georges Seurat’s famous painting of a picnic scene, now with a Waco lens.
Carrie Potter said she was inspired by an old Waco post card when first designing the painting. She has always loved painting, but her main source of income comes from a job in tech support.
"I hope that this is a segue for me to become a full time artist and I hope that it is a substantial enough stepping stone for that to bring in a regular revenue for me to be able to strip away anything else that I do besides art ," Potter said.
The event runs until the end of October. Those interested can see the works themselves at 712 Austin Avenue.
