Yesterday was the first day Texas lawmakers could pre-file bills for the upcoming legislative session. More than 1,400 bills were introduced.
Just last week, Republican Pat Curry was elected to the Texas House of Representatives to fill the remainder of retired Representative Doc Anderson’s term. Exactly one week later, he filed 11 bills, including ones that would introduce restrictions on IVF and additions to the programs offered in public high schools.
Many of the bills filed yesterday will never be signed into law. Lawmakers can continue to file bills until the 60thday of session, in March. The next Texas Legislative session begins on January 14th, 2025.
