An imaging of phase 1A of the Downtown Redevelopment project was presented to the Waco City Council on November 19, 2024.

Yesterday, Waco’s City Council heard an in-depth report about the Downtown Development project which is currently in phase 1A.

The new plan brings more green space to Downtown Waco, including a pedestrian walk-way, a stream & cascade fountain and spring cove. At the meeting, mayor Jim Holmes praised the work done by the development team.

"These pictures are amazing and I think ultimately, people are going to forget about the San Antonio Riverwalk and this is going to be the premier Riverwalk in the world," Holmes said.

The project will continue in the design phase until June 2025. The project will cost an estimated $167 million. Over the next few months, the development team will be asking for public feedback.

Molly-Jo, or MJ as her friends know her, joined KWBU in 2024 as the station's Multimedia Reporter. Originally from San Antonio, Tx, she grew up on local TV journalism and knew that when she decided to pursue journalism as a career, she wanted to find a local beat. Molly-Jo graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in May 2024 with a Bachelor's in Journalism. While there she served as the Audio Editor for UT's student paper, The Daily Texan, and worked with The Drag Audio. She also interned for The Texas Standard, where her feature on a San Antonio nonprofit earned her a statewide award for health reporting (and becoming the first intern to do so). When she is not scoping out stories, MJ enjoys reading a good book, hiking or learning new crafts.
