Every year, thousands of college students across the country compete in the Dr Pepper tuition challenge for a chance to win a $100,000 scholarship.
Eight finalists competed during conference championship games last weekend and one of the winners came from Texas.
During halftime at the ACC Conference Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina, this year’s Dr Pepper tuition competition was heated. Ending in a buzzer beater throw, Baylor University junior Miller Manguno narrowly defeated his opponent.
Each finalist was given 30 seconds to throw footballs into an oversized Dr Pepper can. At the end of the time, the student with the most footballs in the can, wins.
Manguno and his opponent were neck and neck, until a last second throw pushed the total to 11-10. With that throw, Manguno won a check for $100,000 in tuition.
Manguno studies neuroscience at Baylor University and plans to use the scholarship money to pursue his dream of becoming a pediatrician.
