Members of the Zoning Committee discuss the proposed attendance zones for Waco ISD.

In 2021, Waco voters approved a $355 million dollar bond for Waco Independent School District to build a new middle school and renovate or relocate three other schools.

The last of those construction projects are expected to be completed before the 2025-26 school year, and new attendance boundaries are needed.

Over the course of four meetings, a committee of parents, community representatives and teachers gathered to help develop the new attendance boundaries.

Now, the committee is asking the public for input on the new attendance zones before they are presented to the School Board for approval.

There are two remaining meetings for public comment. There will be one meeting at Alta Vista Elementary School on February 20 and one meeting at G.W. Carver Middle School on March 4. Both meetings will be at 6 p.m.

The new attendance zones will be presented to the School Board on April 24. If approved, the new zones will take effect for the 2025-26 school year.
