The Waco City council voted unanimously to cede 5 acres of the Waco Mammoth Site to the National Parks System, pending incorporation into the NPS.

The move would also give the NPS rights to any of the remains found at the dig site and would make the surrounding 108 acres apart of it. City Attorney Jennifer Richie says that if incorporated the city would remain involved.

"We would still work with the National Park System. By we, I mean our partners, which is Baylor University and the Mammoth Foundation would work with the National Park Service to run this park."

Earlier this month National Parks Directior Jon Jarvis visited the site and said he would recommend its incorporation.

"My impressions going into the Waco mammoth park is that it already looks like a National Park."

The site's incorporation would pend approval form President Barrack Obama.
