Mattress Company Opens Waco Facility

Carlos Morales

On Tuesday, North Carolina mattress manufacturer Kingdsown held the grand opening for their hundred thousand-square foot facility. The company invested just under $2 million revamping the old U.S. Postal Service sorting center on Imperial Drive.

"We started in November looking for sites, looking for facilities and we engaged in this new facility. It’s taken us about since about January to get up to speed. We’ve been manufacturing for about 60 days," says Frank Hood, Kingsdown's President and CEO.

Hood says although they visited other sites in Texas, they ultimately chose Waco due to its proximity to main highways and it’s central location to shipping sites like Dallas, Austin, Houston and San Antonio. Both the city and county gave the company more than 120,000 dollars from the Waco-McLennan County Economic Development Corporation fund.

The company signed a 10-year lease on the site and currently has roughly 30 employees and hopes to increase that number to 42 in the coming weeks.
