"The Waco community should feel safe because of the police employees who commit to the care and service of our citizens," Stroman said. "I appreciate the opportunity and privilege to have served as Chief for Waco for the past eight and a half years."

Previously, Stroman served and managed other areas of the department including Patrol, Planning, and Crime Prevention. He was appointed as Chief in December 2007. He’s credited with improving relations with the Waco community. Mayor Kyle Deaver said Stroman was dedicated to his community.

“During my time on the city council, I have found Chief Stroman to be a man of outstanding character who is completely committed to ensuring that the Waco Police department functions at the highest level to protect all the citizens of our community," Deaver said.

Stroman's retirement comes at a time when the police department is dealing with the aftermath high profile cases, such as the Twin Peaks Shooting, which saw nearly 180 people arrested.
