University High Officials Resign Amid Investigation Into Graduation Credits

Waco ISD board president Pat Atkins addresses the press about the findings of the investigation

Waco Independent School District announced the resignation of three University High School administrators following an external investigation which revealed some students that failed to meet state requirements still graduated.

University High principal Kendra Strange, dean of instruction Ronnie Massey and senior class counselor Mindplay place have all resigned.

Strange's resignation comes just a year after becoming the school's principal.

The three administrators were originally put on leave after allegations of the school's academic misconduct emerged.

In a press release, Waco ISD spokesperson Bruce Gitzen outlines the investigation.

October 26, 2016, Waco ISD released an edited summary report from an external investigation by the law firm of Walsh, Gallegos, Trevino, Russo and Kyle on processes and procedures at the University High School campus. That investigation looked into Individual Graduation Committees, credit recovery procedures for course work and attendance, and STAAR end-of-course assessment procedures for seniors in the 2015-2016 class.
