Midway High School Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance
The Midway High School choirs and Goal Tenders dance team will perform a production of Gotta Sing, Gotta Dance. Performances are Friday Feb. 2 and Saturday Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Midway Performing Arts Center. Tickets cost $15 for reserved seats and $10 for general admission. Brazos Theatre Improv
Brazos Theatre Company Improv Comedy is now on two nights per month. Every First Friday and First Saturday of the month you can visit the theatre for improv fun. Doors open at 7:30 and the show begins at 8:30 p.m.
Shakespeare in Love Auditions at the Waco Civic Theatre
Sign up to bring your best to the stage on Monday, Feb. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. in this delightful fictional account of how Will Shakespeare, the young playwright, penned his masterpiece "Romeo and Juliet." Readings will be provided online in January.
DL Hughley and Friends
On Thursday, Feb 7 from 8 to 10 p.m. you can see a pre-Valentine Comedy Show featuring DL Hughley. One of the most popular and highly recognized stand up comedians on the road today has also made quite an impression in the television and radio arena. In 1999, D.L., along with comedians Bernie Mac, Steve Harvey and Cedric the Entertainer, embarked on a national tour, which sold out most of the major concert arenas in over 50 cities across the country. It was the mega-hit,”The Original Kings of Comedy” that launched D.L into superstardom. The show is at the Waco Masonic Lodge at 4324 Cobbs Drive.
A Gospel Sing Celebration - "Lord, Make Me an Instrument"
On Thursday, Feb 7 beginning at 6:30 p.m. you can join a Gospel Sing as we celebrate black sacred music at the intersection of gospel and jazz. Dr. Melvin L. Butler, associate professor at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, will present a gospel concert as part of Baylor’s annual Pruit Symposium. Butler will be accompanied by Dr. Jimmy Hunter, Pastor of Toliver Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, and Baylor’s own Associate Professor of Music Theory, Dr. Horace Maxile. Liverpool Legends: The Complete Beatles Experience
Liverpool Legends are four talented musicians and actors, handpicked by Louise Harrison – sister of the late George Harrison. Liverpool Legends perform songs spanning the entire career of the Classic Early Beatles through the psychedelic era of Sgt. Pepper and the final years all the way through Abbey Road, with precise attention to every musical detail, along with costume changes, vintage instruments and special effects. The show is on Thursday, Feb. 7 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Waco Hippodrome.
Grant Eligibility Information Sessions
The United Way of Waco-McLennan County is hosting “Grant Eligibility Information Sessions” on Feb. 5th, 7th and 8th on the new grant application process launching in 2019-2020. The Information Sessions will go over eligibility criteria, the United Way’s Impact Framework priority areas for funding, and the steps in the new application process. Happy Chinese New Year
On Feb. 5 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the East Waco Library you can learn about the Chinese New Year as we welcome the Year of the Pig. The whole family can join in the fun as we have snacks, read books and make crafts to celebrate this exciting holiday and learn a little about Chinese culture. Stay for the whole hour or just as long as you can.
Mí Corazón/My Heart Exhibit at Art Forum of Waco
For the Valentine month, the Art Forum of Waco is hosting an international exhibit of paintings related to love in one way or another. The exhibit will feature artwork from Brazil, Mexico, and Venezuela, as well as artwork from Texas and New Mexico. The opening reception will be Saturday, February 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. It is free and open to the public. The exhibit can also be seen Tuesday-Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through March 2 at the Art Forum of Waco on 1826 Morrow.
First Friday! Meet the Artists in “Touch of Red”
On Friday, Feb. 1, join Cultivate 7Twelve and PACT Waco for another First Friday celebration of “Touch of Red,” a small works exhibition featuring collectible, professional artists. This is a special opportunity to meet critically-acclaimed Waco artists. Come and go any time between 6 and 10 p.m. for light bites, drinks and live music.
