Measles case confirmed in McLennan County

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

According to the Waco-McLennan County Public Health officials, the measles case is an unvaccinated minor.

Officials say there is no reported local exposure, but they are still investigating the case. It has not yet been determined where the individual contracted measles or if this case is linked to the West Texas outbreak.

Health officials are urging the public to check their vaccination status and be vigilant in monitoring for symptoms, which may start as a fever and runny nose before developing the signature rash.

If you believe you have been exposed, or present symptoms of measles, seek medical care immediately. Officials ask that you call ahead before visiting a clinic to help prevent potential exposure.

The Waco-McLennan County Public Health District’s Immunization Clinic offers measles vaccines Monday through Friday 8 am to 4:30 pm. No appointment is necessary.
