Over the weekend, several videos were posted tosocial media platformsshowing what appeared to be several individuals entering and exploring the long-dormant Astrodome.
Videos of individuals entering the closed Houston facility — which was built in the 1960s as the world’s first domed sports stadium — were posted by at least two different accounts on TikTok, YouTube and Instagram on Saturday and Sunday. While the videos were posted over the weekend, it was unclear Monday exactly when they were taken. The accounts did not respond to requests for comment regarding why and how they entered the premises.
The Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation, which manages the NRG Park complex that includes the Astrodome, did not confirm or deny that anyone had trespassed on the Astrodome grounds over the weekend. But the organization said in a statement to Houston Public Media that anyone caught trespassing would be charged.
"We do not publicly disclose details regarding security measures," a representative said. "Maintaining the confidentiality of this information is crucial to the effectiveness of our security protocols and the safety of our guests. We strongly discourage anyone from attempting to enter NRG Park without a ticket to an event or a legitimate purpose. Unauthorized entry is strictly prohibited and will result in prosecution to the fullest extent of the law."
