Ghislaine Maxwell, a convicted sex trafficker and former girlfriend of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, has been transferred to a federal prison in Bryan, a U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesperson confirmed.
USA Today first reported on Friday that she was transferred from a federal prison in Florida to the Federal Prison Camp Bryan. The prison is located 100 miles northeast of Houston. Maxwell is in the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
David Oscar Markus, a Florida-based attorney representing Maxwell, could not be immediately reached for comment.
Public attention regarding Maxwell and Epstein has increased in recent weeks after the Justice Department announced it would not be releasing additional documents related to the investigation into Epstein.
Maxwell was interviewed last week by the Justice Department and is currently serving a 20-year sentence, according to the Associated Press.
The minimum-security federal prison for women also houses former Theranos CEO Elizabeth Holmes and “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” reality star Jennifer Shah.
This is a developing story.
