Twenty-seven individually wrapped packages of cocaine washed ashore on the west end of Galveston Island this week, according to local authorities.
Galveston police responded to a call about the suspected narcotics just after 9 a.m. Tuesday. Law enforcement officers brought the packages to the Galveston County Justice Center, where tests determined the contents inside were cocaine, according to the Galveston Police Department.
Police said the discovery is not all that uncommon. In April 2025, officials in nearby Jamaica Beach said packages containing drugs washed up on the west end of the island.
Aspart of Galveston Police Department policy, officials toldHouston Public Mediathe narcotics discovered this week will be submitted for destruction.
Officials asked beachgoers who find packages on the beach to avoid contact due to the uncertainty of what may be inside, advising them to instead call Galveston police dispatch at 409-765-3702.
