A deputy and his K-9 helped crack a monthslong case in Galveston County.
The search by K-9 Deputy Alex Sharp and his canine partner, Cash, was spurred after multiple law enforcement agencies executed five search warrants at different locations throughout Galveston County on Friday, according to a social media post on Saturday by the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office. During the operation, officials said detectives got additional information that led to the deputy and his K-9 partner performing a “free-air sniff” at a storage unit.
According to the sheriff’s office, a subsequent search warrant resulted in the seizure of the following items:
- 11.5 pounds of methamphetamine
- 500 pressed methamphetamine pills
- 1 ounce of cocaine
- 50 fentanyl pressed pills
- 3 pounds of marijuana
- One pill press
- Body armor
- One handgun
- U.S. currency
Mone Ford, 22, who the sheriff’s office cited as the target of the investigation, was arrested and is being held in jail on a $2 million bond, according to Galveston County authorities.
Ford's court-appointed defense attorney, Paul Love, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Monday afternoon.
"The Galveston County Sheriff's Office extends our sincere appreciation to Amoco Federal Credit Union for their generous donation to purchase K9 Cash, an investment that continues to make a meaningful impact in the fight against narcotic trafficking,” the sheriff’s office wrote in its social media post. “That was truly money well spent."
