The Teaff Family celebrated former Baylor head football coach, Grant Teaff's 90th birthday by unveiling the Grant Teaff Foundation, a nonprofit committed to shaping the educational and personal growth of Texas high school students.

Good afternoon, I’m Autumn Jones, news reporter at KWBU, bringing you the latest in local news.

In honor of the 90th birthday of College Football Hall of Fame Coach Grant Teaff, the Teaff Family has announced the creation of The Grant Teaff Foundation.

Teaff, head football coach at Baylor University from 1972 to 1992, winning 128 games in his career, wanted to make a difference in the lives of younger generations.

The newly established 501(c)(3) nonprofit has a clear mission — to acknowledge and nurture the educational and personal development of high school students in Texas, emphasizing servant leadership and community service.

A main initiative of the foundation is the annual funding of the Grant Teaff “Beyond the Game Team Award,” in collaboration with the Texas High School Coaches Association, which honors high school athletic teams who actively serve their community.

The organization will also provide crucial support for the operational endeavors of the Texas Sports Hall of Fame.

Nominees for the Beyond the Game Award are invited from various community stakeholders, including coaches, parents, students, teachers and administrators.

The submission process involves uploading a video or narrative detailing the team's accomplishments.

The chosen team will receive a special invitation to attend and be recognized at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet on April 13, 2024. They will also be awarded a $5,000 grant dedicated to their athletic programs as testament to their commitment to community service.

Submissions can be made on tshof.org, with a deadline set for March 1, 2024.
