McLennan County Commissioner Patricia Miller dies at 65

Patricia Miller

Patricia Miller was the the first woman and the first Black woman elected to the McLennan County Commissioners Court.

The City of Bellmead and McLennan County officials have confirmed that McLennan County Commissioner Patricia Miller passed away on Sunday. She was 65.

Officials say Miller was at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center when she passed. The cause of death has not yet been released.

In a statement to the Waco Tribune-Herald, fellow County Commissioner Ben Perry said he was “numbed and stunned,” over the news, adding that Miller was “so spry, active and sweet,” and that there was no indication that “her life was about to end in a brief moment.”

County Judge Scott Felton told the Tribune-Herald that several commissioners had been suffering from colds, but that when he spoke with Miller on Friday there was no indication she was ill.

Commissioner Miller represented Precinct 2 for five years. She was the first woman and the first Black woman elected to the McLennan County Commissioners Court.

She was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 10, 1958 and moved to Waco at age 10. Miller was married to Robert Miller Sr. — and as she wrote on her website, was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt.
