At their Feb. 28 public forum, the Humane Society of Central Texas opened the floor to residents who shared their thoughts on recent animal attacks and euthanasia.

Yesterday afternoon the Humane Society of Central Texas hosted their monthly public forum where residents voiced their concerns about recent dog maulings and animal control services.

Another primary issue for citizens was the rate of euthanasia in central Texas. The board told attendees that they are striving to be more transparent with the public about how many animals are being put down.

They report that they've only had to put down one dog in January for medical reasons, as well as a few in February. While these numbers are low, the humane society is still working to honor the dogs they’ve lost.

“We’re also going to be doing memorial vigils following any euthanasia that may happen for any so that we can remember dogs and animals, so we can be as transparent as possible with our community about any dogs we lost.”

The Humane Society also announced their plans to hold more events in the upcoming months.

Tonight they will host a Fostering 101 class for people interested in becoming a pet foster parent from 6:30 PM to 8 PM at the Humane Society for Central Texas.
