Primary election results for McLennan county

Biden and Trump take Texas, Parnell McNamara wins third term as sheriff and Senator Ted Cruz to face off against U.S. Representative Colin Allred.

McLennan county voters casted their primary ballots yesterday, deciding which candidates they want to represent them in the November general election.

In the race for President, President Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump both secured their respective party nominations.

In the U.S. Senate race, Ted Cruz won the GOP nomination while Collin Allred won the democratic nomination.

For U.S. House District 17, Pete Sessions secured the GOP nomination against Joseph Langone. Mark Lorenzen ran unopposed for the democratic nomination, and will face off against Sessions in the general election.

In the race for Railroad Commissioner, Katherine Culbert won the Democratic nomination, and Christi Craddick secured the GOP nomination.

In the races for Supreme Court Justices, DaSean Jones won the Democratic nomination for Place 2, Christine Vinh Weems for Place 4 and Bonnie Lee Goldstein for Place 6. On the Republican side, Jimmy Blacklock won in Place 2, John Devine for Place 4 and Jane Bland for Place 6.

For the Court of Criminal Appeals, Holly Taylor won the Democratic nomination for Presiding Judge, Nancy Mulder for Place 7, and Chika Anyiam for Place 8. On the Republican side, David J. Schenck won the GOP vote for Presiding Judge, Gina Parker for Place 7 and Lee Finley for Place 8.

For Texas House District 56, Democrat Erin Shank ran unopposed and will face off against Republican Pat Curry who won the nomination against Devvie Duke.

In the appellate and district judges' races, Republican Matt Johnson is the nominee for Chief Justice of the 10th Court of Appeals District, Republican Thomas West for District Judge in the 19th, Republican Gary Coley, Jr. for District Judge in the 74th, Republican Ryan Luna for District Judge in the 414th, and Alan Bennett for District Judge in the 474th.

Randy H. Riggs secured the Republican nomination for County Tax Assessor-Collector, Republican Jim Smith for County Commissioner in Precinct 1, and Republican Will Jones for County Commissioner in Precinct 3.

Christopher DeCluitt won the vote for County Chair of the McLennan county Republican party. Mark Hays won the vote for County Chair of the Democratic party.

In the much-anticipated McLennan county Sheriff race, incumbent Parnell McNamara emerged as the Republican nominee over Jeff Aguirre with no democratic opponent. This will be McNamara’s third term as county Sheriff.
