Baylor University Athletic Department

The Baylor women's basketball team defeated Virginia Tech last Sunday, advancing to the women’s sweet 16 tournament. The Bears will now play the No.1 seed USC Trojans on March 30.

The No. 5 seed Baylor Women's Basketball team defeated the No. 4 seed Virginia Tech Hokies 75-72 last Sunday, advancing to the women’s sweet 16 tournament.

Going into her third year as Head Coach, Nicki Collen has led the Bears to an impressive 27-7 season. This will be the first time the women's basketball team advances to the sweet 16 under Collen’s tenure as head coach.

Senior Sarah Andrews has been one of Baylor's leading scorers throughout the regular season, averaging 11.3 points a game. However, for last Sunday’s game Coach Collen relied on guard Jada Walker, who had an impressive 28 point game with a pivotal 3 point play which put Baylor up by 4 points with 19 seconds left on the clock.

In the post-game interview, Jada had this to say about her performance.

Jada Walker: “It was working for me down the stretch, I was hitting shots and I’m glad cause I haven’t been early on in the season, but now is the time, where it's crunch time for us, we got to hit shots in order for us to win and I did, Sarah did, a lot of our teammates did and we got stops down the stretch that helped us.”

The Baylor Bears will now play the highest ranked women's basketball team in the country, the No.1 seed USC Trojans, who are led by PAC-12 Freshman of the Year, Ju Ju Watkins.

The game takes place Saturday, March 30. at the Moda Center in Portland broadcast on ESPN at 4:30 central time.
