Filmmakers from around the world are in Waco this weekend for the Waco Independent Film Festival.

The festival held it's opening red carpet event last night for filmmakers and screened the film 'The Cigarette Surfboard.'

The documentary featured surfboards created with cigarette butts cleaned up from California beaches. The festival's lineup included many short films as well as feature length films like 'Breakup Season'.

The film's director H.Nelson Tracey is from Los Angeles and says he the festival for it's reputation.

H.Nelson Tracey: “It’s on a lot of the kind of top 100 best reviewed on film freeway and other things like that. this is our texas premiere. we’ve played at about 8 film festivals so far and we've got about a dozen or more lined up for the fall but waco is kind of right place right time and give us a chance to show to audiences in Texas.”
