On Tuesday, Parks and Recreation Director Jonathon Cook provided a design update and timeline to the City Council for the China Spring Park.
"We knew there was an emphasis to create a park in the area," Cook said.
He told the Council that the park has been in the works, in some way, since the 2017 Parks, Recreation & Open Spaces Master Plan.
In 2022, the city purchased the 85-acres just north of Lake Waco and adjacent to the airport to begin progress on that goal.

"Y’all committed to building not just a neighborhood park, but a park with the future potential of establishing connections in a growing area of town," Cook said.
The project is in the final stages of design planning on the China Spring park. Currently design plans include both a concrete and soft surface nature trail, picnic table pavilion, a splash pad and a large playground.
City Manager Bradley Ford said the new park is a way for the city to connect with the fast-growing community.
"It represents the first major investment out in China Spring that’s not a water tower or fire station," Ford said.
Construction bidding is expected to begin later this month. The city plans to start construction by May and the park is expected to be open sometime in Spring of 2026.
Construction is estimated to cost $3.7 million.
