From the entrance of the Mayborn Museum, sound pours out of the traveling exhibit room.

Third graders from Chapel Park elementary school take turns with the various activities The Pigeon Comes to Waco has to offer.

Some are launching hotdogs at the pigeon. Others build a mega block tower as high as it can go, before knocking it down. And still others learn to draw Mo Willems characters, like The Pigeon or Knuffle Bunny.

One Chapel Park third-grader, Reese, says his favorite part of the exhibit, is the Pigeon Palace.

"It looks like the pigeon is moving … it’s animated by paper" he said. "There’s a bunch of papers and it spins really fast … it looks like its an animated drawing."

Chapel Park Librarian Katie Talbert organized the school trip for Chapel Park.

"This really brings reading to life for the kids, and it's more than just books and papers," Talbert said. "It is stories that come to life, experiences that they get to have and create."

The Pigeon Comes to Waco will be on display from now until May 11. You can find more information at mayborn.web.baylor.edu.

Molly-Jo, or MJ as her friends know her, joined KWBU in 2024 as the station's Multimedia Reporter. Originally from San Antonio, Tx, she grew up on local TV journalism and knew that when she decided to pursue journalism as a career, she wanted to find a local beat. Molly-Jo graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in May 2024 with a Bachelor's in Journalism. While there she served as the Audio Editor for UT's student paper, The Daily Texan, and worked with The Drag Audio. She also interned for The Texas Standard, where her feature on a San Antonio nonprofit earned her a statewide award for health reporting (and becoming the first intern to do so). When she is not scoping out stories, MJ enjoys reading a good book, hiking or learning new crafts.
