Esrom Martinez has been named as the new Head Football Coach and Athletic Director for the Waco High School Lions.
Martinez has 15 years of coaching experience and is well-known for his commitment to student-athlete development. Most recently, Martinez served as the assistant football and powerlifting coach for Midway High School.
Martinez’s hiring marks a return to Waco ISD, where he began his coaching career at University High.
Martinez replaces former Head Coach, Linden Heldt, who retired in December after four seasons with the Lions. In his four seasons, the team won only five games. Waco High has not seen a playoff game since 2017.
Martinez said in a press release that he is excited to step into the role and “create a program that fosters excellence both on and off the field”
