School is out for kids all across Waco. And while many students look forward to the summer break, it can be a rough time for the nearly 1 in 4 Texas kids that rely on school for their meals.
But through the annual Summer Seamless Feeding Program, Waco ISD provides free breakfast and lunch for any child 18 years or younger at any of the locations.
"Often, school meals during the regular school year are the only nutritious meals that some children receive and when school is out, having access to such meals is a challenge," WISD Child Nutrition Specialist Sarah Hodde said. "The summer feeding program fills this void during the entire summer.”
There is no paperwork to fill out or residency requirement. The only requirement is that the children must be present to receive a meal.
“Our goal is always to reach any child in Waco that is in need of a nutritious, delicious meal and to support families in our community,” Hodde said.
Waco ISD will have 11 breakfast sites and 22 lunch sites across town, including schools, churches and community centers. Sites are open Monday-Friday until August 6, except for June 19 and July 4.
You can find a full list of sites and hours by visiting the Waco ISD website. You can also call 211 to find your nearest location.
