Interim Fire Chief Robin “Robby” Bergerson has been selected as the next Waco Fire Chief.

According to a press release Thursday announcing his selection, Bergerson has been with the Waco Fire Department for 28 years and has held every operational and administrative rank. Most recently he served as Executive Deputy Fire Chief and Interim Fire Chief upon former Chief Walker’s departure.

Bergerson also serves as assistant branch coordinator for region 8 of the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid. There he helps to assign personnel and equipment during statewide emergencies.

The department has faced recent turnover with chiefs. Former Chief Scott Walker, from Arizona, served for only six months before resigning earlier this year. Before that, Chief Gregory Summers from Arkansas served for only four years and Chief Bobby Tatum Jr from Ft. Worth, served only 3 years.

Bergerson’s appointment is expected to be confirmed during next week’s city council meeting.
