Waco ISD Superintendent Dr. Tiffany Spicer and Kendrick Elementary Principal Isabel Lozano recite the pledge of allegiance, led by two Kendrick students. On Monday, September 15, Waco ISD invited community and staff to celebrate the opening of Kendrick Elementary's new campus.

Over 100 teachers, families and community members gathered in the Kendrick Elementary School cafeteria to celebrate the brand new school Monday morning.

"This building is a place of hope for all of our children. Here they will learn, grow and know that they belong and are loved," Principal Isabel Lozano said.

Speaking to the crowd, she said the new school represents the best chapters of Kendrick Elementary.

After the closing of Alta Vista Elementary over the summer, Kendrick absorbed about half of those students. Lozano said she’s excited for what a new school means for this community.

"It’s so amazing what this school is doing for this community," Lozano said.

Waco ISD Superintendent Dr. Tiffany Spicer at the dedication ceremony said the school opening now is helping to lay the groundwork for years to come.

"This opportunity is not just for the students that are in the seats today, but for those that will come tomorrow and for years to come," Spicer said.

The new school sits on the same site as the former building and includes a larger library, two gyms, a regulation soccer field, and an outdoor amphitheater.
