Pete Rusek appointed judge of Waco's 74th State District Court

Waco’s 74th State District Court has sat empty since former Judge Gary Coley Jr’s resignation in February.

The governor’s office Monday announced the appointment of Waco Attorney Pete Rusek as judge of Waco’s 74th State District Court.

Rusek holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Texas A&M University and a Law Degree from Baylor University. Rusek is the president and shareholder of Sheehy, Lovelace & Mayfield P.C. and specializes in employment law.

He has sat on the Midway ISD Board since 1996, serving as Board President since 2004. He will have to resign from the board now that he has been appointed to the judgeship.

Rusek’s appointed term will end on December 31, 2026. To retain the bench, he would need to run in the November 2026 election.
