Waco City Council prioritizes Waco' water future, approves two water-related resolutions

Earlier this year, the Texas Legislature approved the creation of the Central Texas Water Alliance to help solve water supply challenges in four Central Texas counties seeing major growth. McLennan County is one of them and County Judge Scott Felton sits on the founding board.

On Tuesday, the Waco City Council approved a resolution to apply as a member of the Central Texas Water Alliance. In it’s resolution, the city highlighted its position as the largest holder of Water in the Alliance’s service area.

Also Tuesday, the Waco City Council approved a resolution finalizing the acquisition of all the Brazos River Authority’s storage rights in Lake Waco. The acquisition represents an additional 138,600 acre-feet of water storage in the lake – that’s 45.1 billion gallons of storage space.

Both resolutions are part of Waco’s ongoing efforts to plan for water needs as the city and county continue to grow.
