The TEA announced Thursday that Andrew Kim has been appointed conservator for Connally ISD.

Texas Commissioner of Education Mike Morath on Thursday named Andrew Kim as conservator for Connally Independent School District.

The appointment is part of the TEA’s takeover of Connally ISD due to five consecutive years of failing state accountability ratings. Kim’s appointment is effective immediately. The TEA will announce a board of managers and a new superintendent later on. Applications to serve on the state’s board of managers are open until January 31.

Connally will be responsible for Kim’s pay, with a rate of $250 an hour and his travel time, charged at $50 an hour.

Kim will oversee and direct the districts’ superintendents, principals or governance team, report to TEA on governance and student academics and attend all board meetings.

Kim was also named conservator for Beaumont and Lake Worth ISDs, who saw takeover announcements last year.
