UPDATE: Waco ISD, Baylor extend school closures through Tuesday as icy conditions remain

UPDATED - JANUARY 26 3:13 PM

Central Texas saw a mix of sleet and snow over the weekend, with temperatures remaining below freezing into Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service. Waco remains under an extreme cold warning until Tuesday morning.

Temperatures are not expected to rise above freezing until Tuesday afternoon, leaving Icy conditions on roads across town.

The City of Waco and Texas Department of Transportation have closed dangerous roads, including the Twin Bridges, parts of Lake Shore Drive, and the Washington Street Bridge.

Widespread power outages have not been reported in the Waco area as of 3 PM Monday.

So far, the following local schools have canceled or delayed class on Tuesday, January 27:

  • Axtell ISD
  • Bruceville-Eddy ISD
  • Bosqueville ISD
  • Connally ISD
  • Harmony Public Schools
  • La Vega ISD
  • Lorena ISD
  • Mart ISD
  • Midway ISD
  • Rapaport Academy
  • Reicher Catholic School
  • Robinson ISD
  • Waco ISD
  • West ISD
  • Valor Preparatory Academy

Mclennan Community College, Texas State Technical College , and Baylor University will shift to virtual classes on Tuesday.
