A little over 56 per-cent of Texas residents have been vaccinated so far, and as KWBU’s Dustin Drew reports, McLennan County is a little behind the trend.
According to the Texas Department of State Health Services, only 38 per-cent of residents twelve and older in McLennan County have been fully vaccinated, and about 45% of residents have received at least one dose.
Kelly Craine is the Communication lead for the Waco McLennan County Public Health District and says even though people are slowly getting vaccinated, the number of positive Covid cases is not on the increase.
“We are really kind of in that steady group of averaging about maybe ten cases per day, it goes up a little it goes down a little.”
Craine also says that hospitalization rates are down as well.
“Is really hovering around two per-cent, where it was at 30 per-cent in January, so were doing really well, and attribute a lot of that to people getting vaccinated.
Back in May the FDA approved the Pfizer vaccine for kids aged 12 and up, so the Waco McLennan County Public Health District has joined with Waco Independent School District to host a Covid-19 Vaccination clinic today from 2 until 7.
The clinic will take place in the University High School gym, and Craine says that it’s free to the public, and those under 18 years old must have a parent or guardian with them.
“Really just identification, that’s all they need, we just need an adult there with them so they can get the shot.”
Craine says they hope that people will register for the shot at covid Waco dot com, however walk ups will be accepted.
