The Likely Investor

What is the best way for entrepreneurs to get their idea or product noticed? Angel investor Martin Zwilling gives tips on how to catch the eye of an investor.

I’M CJ JACKSON AND THIS IS THE BUSINESS REVIEW

INVESTORS HAVE SEEN THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY, OF ENTREPRENUERAL PRESENTATIONS. ANGEL INVESTOR, MARTY ZWILLING, CEO OF STARTUP PROFESSIONAL, SHARES HOW ENTREPRENEURS CAN CAPTURE INVESTOR'S ATTENTION.

“I've been in countless presentations and it's frustrating to me to see a very bright young entrepreneur get off on the wrong track. I'd like to hear very quickly, what is your solution? What is it that you're pitching, and how does it impact me? How does it compare to the competition? People try to save their grabber for the end. Don't save it for the end, because you probably have lost me by the time that you get to that point.”

ZWILLING ENCOURAGES ENTREPRENEURS TO TALK ABOUT THEIR TEAM AND TO BE SURE TO FOLLOW UP WITH THE NEXT STEPS.

“People often talk about the product, that's their baby. They forget to talk about their team. We look for people who have the kind of skills, the kind of determination, the kind of optimism that is necessary to get through a small business. They forget to ask for the next step. If you’re looking for an order or an investment, say, I would like to talk to you later and talk about specifically what it takes to get an investment. Finally, give the investor, maybe your executive overview or copy of the business plan, or certainly your business card. I believe that the most important thing an entrepreneur can do is to practice and talk to real people, talk to your partner, talk to an investor and make sure that the message comes across clearly.”
