Texas lawmakers question whether multibillion-dollar data center tax break still benefits the state
Texas has offered major sales-tax breaks to data centers for more than a decade. The exemption was intended to lure a growing technology industry and generate high-paying jobs.
But data centers are no longer an emerging industry. Driven by cloud computing and artificial intelligence, they are spreading rapidly across Texas—and the projected cost of the tax break has climbed into the billions.
On Monday state lawmakers asked if Texas is giving up revenue for projects that would be built anyway.

And as lawmakers are wrestling with those excemptions, Data Centers are continuing to pop up around the state. In fact, some estimates show that Texas may be on track to outpace Virginia as the data center capital of the U-S. That’s if most of the data centers being planned get built.

Talarico leads Paxton by 5 points in new poll of Texas' U.S. Senate race
A new poll on Texas’ U.S. Senate race shows Democrat James Talarico 5 points ahead of Republican candidate Ken Paxton, the state’s current Attorney General.
The survey, from Texas Public Opinion Research, gives Talarico one of the biggest leads either candidate has seen in polling so far. According to the poll, part of that is due to Talarico’s appeal to Texas independent voters.
The Texas Newsroom’s Blaise Gainey reports that the Democrat touted his ability to work across the aisle at a Central Texas rally yesterday.
