SHOUT! Black Gospel Music Moments - Rev. Raymond Dozier

The patriarch of the Dozier family of gospel singers, the Rev. Raymond Dozier, is a masterful gospel singer himself – witness his rendition of “No Kids Allowed.”

One of today’s top gospel artists is Joyce Dozier McNichols. Not only has she had several hit songs and albums, she’s a singer, songwriter, pianist and graphic artist. Joyce is one of six kids in the multi-talented Dozier family, all of whom are gifted musicians and singers.

But the patriarch of the clan, the Rev. Raymond Dozier, is a pretty fair gospel singer himself. Back in 1985, Raymond released It’s in His Hands on the family’s McNichols label, which was distributed by A&M Records. The highlight is the lead track, “No Kids Allowed” – a deeply soulful slab of slow, emotional gospel, sung in the style of a Solomon Burke or Brook Benton. And it’s a winner.
